The Slapbooth Show

Posted in blogging, boston terriers, Los Campeones, New projects with tags , , , , on June 14, 2012 by lili

The Slapbooth Show is a podcast show by Bibi and Fifi of The Poubelle Twins, whom you may know from the very popular Lucha Va Voom.

If you have an hour to spare, listen to me chat with our special luchadora friends on this podcast –>  http://www.deuxfilles.net/podcast/?p=409

It is a little silly. We talk about Lucha Libre, Mucha Lucha, Los Campeones, Doggie Drawings, and Ice Cream. I also say  that I am looking for an agent… which is indeed true as I have some new projects (animated and  screenable, illustrated and publishable) for which I could use some representation.  Gracias!  – Lili

P.S. I have also been recently interviewed on The Kitchn.com HERE

‘The Kinky Kasparovich Konundrum’ – the book!

Posted in Books, New projects on May 27, 2012 by eddie

Kaspar Kasparovich – a Soviet secret agent specialising in western pop culture – is an idea we have been developing for some time.
I started writing a script a few years back, and because I was watching a lot of Film Noir at the time, the script started to become more of a first person narrative. So much so, that I’ve released the story as an actual novel, and it is now available to buy on the blurb website
It’s a short, fun read, and I’ve tried to keep the price pretty much down to cost. The only downside are the shipping charges which are quite steep. Blurb does offer discount coupons on the shipping though, and entering the code DADTASTIC25 (before May 31st) can save you 25% off shipping costs.
I must stress though, that this is purely an exercise in getting the Kaspar Kasparovich story documented rather than a money making venture, and will hopefully lead to the next step in getting the project animated.

Ska-Ville update

Amongst other projects ‘Ska-ville’ goes on. Here’s an image from a current scene. A couple of Ska crazy birds explain to an out-of-town pigeon just ‘What is Ska?’

*HIT *APP**S

Posted in New projects with tags on May 5, 2012 by eddie

The first time I heard the phrase ‘App’ I thought to myself “Is this just like the Flash stuff with buttons everyone has been doing for years?”. After finally experiencing an App, I guess it is…admittedly with more advanced touchy-feely interaction.

Unfortunately – and as everyone knows – mean old Apple won’t run Flash on their devices, which brings instant problems for animators wanting to create Apps of their own. And double unfortunately, it means seeking out lesser-than-Flash programs that export to more iPhone/Pad friendly formats like Html 5.

Having explored a few of these programs (I am interested in developing an App for ‘Ska-Ville’ our learn-how-to-dance-the-Ska cartoon) I am really upset that they hark a return to pre-Flash ‘FutureSplash’ days. While they are cheap – Hippo Studios ‘Animator’ costs $40 – all the animation I’ve seen coming from these programs looks really remedial and uninspiring.

So if there are any animators out there developing their ideas for Apps, I would be really interested in hearing what programs and techniques you are using.

Working rough…

Posted in Dead Ringo, New projects, Storyboards & Layouts, Uncategorized on April 21, 2012 by eddie

Storyboard page from our feature film ‘Los Campeones de La Lucha Libre’. Because other studios were involved in the production, the storyboards HAD to be detailed and on-model – especially as we knew some (most!) artists would be skipping the layout stage and working straight from the boards. Here are some more examples:

I personally love boarding as I feel it’s where true animation direction comes from. But right now I am enjoying working a little looser and rougher; because the cartoons we are doing are being produced from within, it means the storyboards become more of a blueprint for ideas, rather than rigid direction. And they don’t have to be consistently on model. Hell, when we work on our own stuff, we don’t even use model sheets.

Here are two examples of rougher boards; Super Computer & Dead Ringo. Note that some of the dialogue has been removed because these are still in production, and we don’t want to give EVERYTHING away! :)

Dance Crasher

Posted in Inspiration, Music, New projects on October 18, 2011 by eddie

Our passion with subcultures and style is ongoing, and so is our commitment to ‘Dance Crasher’, a story about what happens when characters with different aesthetics, outlooks and musical tastes collide.  It’s a big story, and we want it to be a big movie…with a soundtrack that kills!  Below are our character designs, development art and movie synopsis.

Dead Ringo Design

Posted in New projects, Storyboards & Layouts, Uncategorized on January 13, 2010 by eddie

This design utilizes the Glow effect in Animate.  I created a glow layer and then inverted it to effect the trees

The Directional Glow effect was added to the background

Some of the demons Ringo must battle

We’ll be posting some animation tests in the next few weeks

Don’t forget our Toonboom-Bastic blog, where we post scenes we have produced using ‘Animate’.  The Multiplane camera in Animate is the best thing ever, and we are having a blast with it; it really adds an extra dimension to our truck ins/outs/pans…

Boogie Loves All-Mighty postcards

If you have seen any of my other internet profiles (flickr, facebook etc) it’s clear that I am obsessed with my boston terrier – Boogie,  adopted from Boston Buddies Rescue.

Next month on September 12th is Boston Buddies’ 4th Annual Boston Tea Party, in Huntington Beach. There will be hundreds of boston terriers & their people present. There will be contests, food, adoptable BTs, photo ops, auctions of BT-related stuff, and BT-related giveaways. These postcards above were created for the All-Mighty Clothing gift bags, and they feature Boogie and gals wearing All-Mighty apparel.

Come and join the party! (Which is open also to non Boston Terrier People)

…  last year’s Boogie On calendar series:

Yes, I am a crazy boston terrier person. :)
